LATEST NEWS

CURRENT SITUATION 22 FEBRUARY 2024

The fields at Holwell Pastures are currently very wet with lots of large puddles. However Scout, Guide and DoE groups are still enjoying their camps, mostly making use of the centrally heated Ironstone Lodge. With room for up to 32 young people in the dormitory plus 2 twin bedrooms for leaders (see below for restrictions for Brownies and Rainbows) the Lodge offers excellent accommodation for all types of group.

This year we have had new fencing installed along the south side of the second field and a small gate added to enter the Dell area. Currently the Dell is full of water so unfortunately it is not in use until the water drains away.

Melton Mowbray District Scouts camp site is set in a quiet rural location and is available for outdoor camping or indoor sleeping for up to 36 people

About Holwell Pastures

The site is owned and managed by Melton Mowbray & District Scout Council. Groups of young people can enjoy outdoor camping on the large fields or to stay in the large centrally heated and very well equipped Ironstone Lodge sleepover building. The smaller Martyn Turner building offers a meeting room and a well stocked, fully fitted kitchen.

The two large meeting rooms and fitted kitchen in Ironstone Lodge are also available for local community groups and organisations to rent for daytime activities during the week.

Outside there are two large fields, one of which contains a smaller area, the 3rd field, which is ideal for smaller camps. Improvements for 2022 include much shorter grass across the whole site and new wood stores close to the two camp fire areas.

Holwell Pastures is suitable for young people of all ages from Beaver and Brownie sleepovers to Scout and Guide camps, Explorer Expeditions and youth, Church, school, college and Duke of Edinburgh camps.

We do accept some private birthday or celebration parties but as this is not a public site we do not accept  individual private bookings. There are no caravan hook-up facilities.

The dormitory has bunk beds for up to 32 people plus 2 separate leader twin bedrooms and two overnight toilets. There are two large meeting rooms, one with an overhead projector connectable to laptops. There are 10 Go-Pack tables and 50 padded chairs. All pots and pans and cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery are included in the fully fitted stainless steel kitchen.  The modern unisex toilets and showers area, including a wet room for disabled persons, is accessed separately and opened for all users on site.
