Local Attractions
Holwell Pastures is located in the beautiful Leicestershire countryside close to the market town of Melton Mowbray. On site are several activities but if you have the time and would like to look around the area there are plenty of local attractions.

Melton Mowbray itself is a market town, 19 miles north east of Leicester and 20 miles south east of Nottingham. It has built a reputation in recent years as Britain's "Rural Capital of Food". Top food attractions in this area are the Melton Mowbray pork pies (see below, Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe) and Stilton cheese which originated close to Melton Mowbray, both of which have Protected Status.

Melton has been a market town for over 1,000 years. The market was established with tolls before 1077 and is the third oldest market in England with Royal approval being given to the Tuesday market in 1324. The current Tuesday market located next to Scalford Road has a large number of stalls in the market square and one of the largest and most successful livestock markets in the country.

Below are details of some of the local attractions you may wish to consider visiting
St Mary's Church has stonework in the lowest section of the tower with its Norman windows dating from 1170 though there were certainly Anglo-Saxon churches on the site before the Norman church. Most of the visible remains date from the 13th-15th century
The historic Bede Houses on Burton Street were built by a prominent London haberdasher, Robert Hudson who was born in Melton. They were originally built as almshouses providing accommodation for 'six poor old bachelors or widows'. In 1720 the Rev. Henry Storer increased this to twelve. A museum was established upstairs in 1847 but the House has now been converted into apartments
